Christmas Single

December 4th 2018

Hi everyone. Forgive this slightly off-topic message. I would say it has a musical connection, but that’s a highly dubious claim to make. As many of you know, we (a chap called Lester Barnes who lives in my home village of Chelsfield, and I) write and record a ludicrous Christmas single every year; well since 2015 at any rate. There is a new one out – officially released along with a video tonight, if you’re interested. Actually it’s released tonight, whether you’re interested or not. We ...Continue Reading

Music from last concert

November 11th 2018

I am missing a double bass part for the Butterworth, and I think a double bass part for the Ravel. It's difficult to know with the Ravel since it is Adrian's set, and there is no inventory, but there are normally 4 bass parts in a set. Please let me know by email if you have these. Please can everyone try to keep their music in one piece, repairing as necessary with tape. I am surprised some of those parts didn't disintegrate on the stand. Thanks ...Continue Reading

BSO Librarian

November 5th 2018

It is time for me to pass the librarian baton onto someone else. These are the duties: * To hire music in advance of the start of the next concert's rehearsal sessions, preferably 2 weeks in advance to give Adrian a chance to bow parts, and for you to get additional music sets printed as the BSO string sections have now expanded beyond the size catered for by standard orchestral sets * To package music up into folders for each of the orchestral sections before the fir ...Continue Reading

Bromley Concert Reminder for Saturday November 10th

October 26th 2018

This is a reminder that the first concert of our 2018-19 Centenary season is on Saturday 10th November at Langley Park Centre for the Performing Arts BR3 3BP. In our Armistice Centenary concert, Brahms’ arresting Tragic Overture is followed by Butterworth’s nostalgically lyrical ‘A Shropshire Lad’, written in the shadow of WWI. Ravel’s jazzy and virtuosic Concerto for the Left Hand follows - commissioned by a pianist who lost an arm in the conflict. After the interval we present Elgar’s Second Sy ...Continue Reading

Mugs, publicity and Twitter...

October 15th 2018

Hi All A few very sensible people have started bringing their own mugs/cups to rehearsal for tea and coffee. This is something we should all be moving towards if possible. Enviromentally speaking it will save us from using all those plastic and polystyrene cups and bearing in mind the temperature of the water, it will save a lot of scorched fingers. So if at all possible can members start bringing their own re-usable receptacles to rehearsal. Secondly, we are trying to find new avenues for ...Continue Reading

Re: From AB Rehearsal schedule

October 10th 2018

Dear All A pair of glasses in a case marked 'DEC2013' were left at the rehearsal on Monday night. I think they belong to a member of the string section based upon where they were located. I have them now. I will bring them along next Monday although if anyone would like to claim them before the rehearsal I work in Bromley and could arrange to exchange after work. Alternatively you could visit the the sunny village of West Kingsdown along the A20 just past Brands Hatch. Regards, James 01474 ...Continue Reading

From AB Rehearsal schedule

October 10th 2018

Given the work done on the Ravel on Monday I have decided to concentrate on Mov 1 and 3 of the Elgar this coming Monday the 15th. We will still play the Brahms at 9.30. No Ravel. Please can all parts in all strings be bowed by then. Bowings are needed to rehearse what is required, Thanks. Dear members You have been advised that Sarah Norman stood down as BSO Secretary after the AGM, but not that I was elected on June 20th to that role. As discussed at the last AGM, this has not yet been implemented for various technical reasons.
