Do you want to play Musical Chairs?

November is here, the nights are getting longer and we're all getting our Winter coats out of the cupboard. So, what better way to beat these blues than by taking part in one of the most fulfilling fundraisers you could hope for (and, in our humble opinion, a lot more fun than running a marathon) and learning something new in the process. That's right, it's Orchestras for All's annual fundraising event - Musical Chairs!

What is Musical Chairs? Musical Chairs offers you the chance to come and play in a real-life symphony orchestra for a day. You'll spend a day working with our team of professional music tutors and the young musicians from our unique National Orchestra for All (NOFA), rehearsing and performing two iconic works of the western canon – Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake and Copland’s Fanfare for a Common Man. All the music is specially arranged and caters for all abilities - whether you're a complete beginner or virtuoso. Leading us through rehearsals will be world-renowned conductor and head of conducting at the Royal Academy of Music, Sian Edwards.

As musicians who play regularly, why don’t you use this as an opportunity to try out an instrument you might not have played before? Maybe offer to coach someone you know and receive some free lessons in return? After all, on his seminal album ‘For You’, Prince played every single one of the 27 instruments featured – could this be you one day?!

All the money we raise on the day will be used to deliver our enriching annual programme of OFA activities and to unlock access to the life-changing experience of ensemble music-making for 11-18 years olds with complex lives.

When and where is it? We'll spend a full day rehearsing at Cecil Sharp House in Camden from 10-4pm on Saturday 24 February 2018. There will be a mixture of full rehearsals and smaller sectional rehearsals in your instrumental groups. At 4pm, we'll be holding an informal concert to friends, family and supporters, followed by a well-earned drink.

How can I take part? There are many ways to secure your seat in the orchestra for Musical Chairs 2018. You can raise sponsorship or reserve a place in the orchestra for yourself or a friend. The suggested fundraising target or donation to take part is £250. Once you have signed up to take part via our online form <> , one of the OFA team will be in touch to explain next steps in terms of securing your seat and will send you your music so you can start practicing!

New to Musical Chairs 2018, we are offering up to three after work First Aid Clinics in the run up to the event where you can come along for extra support and help. A friendly member of our team will be on hand to take you through your part and show you how to play the tricky bits, especially helpful if you’re picking up a new instrument for the first time! <> Click here to see how the intrepid Musical Chairs musicians got on last year when they learnt 'Mambo' from West Side Story with only a few hours of rehearsals - all under the baton of guest conductor Sue Perkins! Interested? Sign up today! Complete our online form <> or contact Orchestras for All by email at"> <">> or by phone on 0207 267 4141 to register your interest in taking part. Once you've signed up, you'll receive your welcome pack with all of your music for the day and a link to your personalised fundraising page.
