Missing music

March 17th 2019

I am missing: 1 viola Heldenleben part Please let me know by email if you or any of your relatives have this part. Also: please try and repair any parts which are disintegrating before they are hurled onto the Grey Suitcase Music Mountain. It saves me having to locate the correct sheets and re-assemble the parts. I'm sure it would make your music practice easier too. If you don't have the confidence to tape up music parts, please bring them in for a taping session one Monday. Bring in Chris ...Continue Reading

BSO Concert Reminder for Saturday March 16th

March 4th 2019

This is a reminder that the third concert of our 2018-19 Centenary season is on Saturday 16th March at Langley Park Centre for the Performing Arts BR3 3BP. In our third concert, Elgar’s rollicking recreation of Edwardian London leads into the tuneful Symphony for Strings by his friend, the long-term LSO leader and Bromley Symphony conductor William (‘Billy’) Reed. Ein Heldenleben, Strauss’ autobiographical, lavishly romantic and richly-textured tone poem, showcases our own leader, Andrew Laing, i ...Continue Reading

BSO February 25th

February 17th 2019

The schedule is for Strauss all evening. However it has been suggested that we should spend more time on the Reed so we will tuck in a rehearsal of the first movement of the Reed towards the end of the rehearsal. You will therefore need parts for both the Monday and Tuesday evenings of the Reed. Thanks, Adrian Sent from [1] Mail for Windows 10 [1] https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=550986 ...Continue Reading

BSO Centenary Reception 26 May 2019

February 15th 2019

Dear all You will recall we canvassed everyone’s views a while back on holding a reception for members and invited guests to mark our centenary. This will take place on the afternoon of 26 May at Ripley. We need help to make all the arrangements. I’m happy to coordinate but I do not realistically have time to do more, what with still trying to write the orchestra history and full-time work! The main things that need arranging are: \[\-\-5mUrMKo9DM_TMP[if !supportLists]DM_TMP5mUrMKo9\-\-\]& ...Continue Reading

Mugs

February 11th 2019

Hi I will be bringing some of the remaining travel mugs (there are 19 left) and some china mugs to each rehearsal. Just a reminder that the travel mugs are £7.50 and the china £5. I f you haven't bought one yet, please support your orchestra by buying one. Any profits will go help boost orchestra funds for what have been a particularly costly couple of years! February 5th 2019

Dear friends, My parents are almost 90 but life-long classical music-lovers, and it was they who asked me to get the video made of Simon's concert with the orchestra. I called my friend Chris Beston, who has made videos for the orchestra before. Chris got quite inspired on the night and has since spent ages editing it, with different angles etc. The recording guys (and the aged parents, of course) are thrilled with it. As requested by several players last night, here is the link - with mas ...Continue Reading

Last night's concert

January 27th 2019

Congratulations to everyone on a magnificent concert last night! Terrific music-making and commitment throughout the Mahler, with plenty of fine solo playing; and John Lill was delighted with the sensitive rendering of the Beethoven. He acknowledged that he tested us with some new ideas during the performance, and together we rose to the challenge! Thanks for all and best wishes, Simon ...Continue Reading

Missing Music

January 27th 2019

I am missing the following music: Two Mozart Violin 1 parts, labelled 19 and 20. There should be 6 parts in total. How many desks were playing in the concert? One Mahler Violin 2 part, labelled 6/7 Please respond to this email if you have those parts so that I know where they are. Also, it would be nice if it wasn't just the usual suspects putting away stands and chairs after the concerts and rehearsals. If you have bulky instruments or bring your own seating (e.g. percussion, basses, harps ...Continue Reading

BSO Concert Reminder for Saturday January 26th

January 14th 2019

This is a reminder that the second concert of our 2018-19 Centenary season is on Saturday 26th January at Langley Park Centre for the Performing Arts BR3 3BP. In our second concert Mozart’s small-but-perfectly-formed Symphony 32 precedes the internationally renowned John Lill, who joins us in Beethoven’s First Piano Concerto. Then, Mahler’s monumental First Symphony (the ‘Titan’), which exemplifies his comment: ‘To write a symphony is, for me, to construct a world.’ And to mark our centenary ...Continue Reading
